Dark Ages : Online Roleplaying
Hunting as a warrior can be pretty simple, but over the months you will develop your own unique style of hunting. In this section i will tell you some of the most effective ways I've found out work with hunting accompanied by various differant paths.

Hunting Solo (Alone)
Hunting alone is a very dangerous tactic. However, near the beginning of your life on darkages, it is most of the time a necessity. First and foremost, you don't want to rescue everything that walks by. ^^; Being alone with a legion of beasts after you could be fatal. Try taking them on one by one. Beag Suain works great when hunting alone, as it keeps the monsters from crashing down on you. If you can, ask an herbalist for a hydele deum. Don't beg for one. Ask a friend if you can. If you don't know the herbalist and they refuse to give you one, please don't pester them. Be respectful.

Alone in a hunt, you want to be right up at your enemy, not using the hit and run tactics often. Their spells do a lot more damage than their hits. A safe place to solo with guerrilla tactics (hit and run) would be dubhaim where the monsters do not cast spells.

Note: Hunting in groups is safer and easier. Get to know people and befriend them. They might ask you to hunt with them someday.

Hunting with a Warrior
Another Warrior in the group is similar to having 3x the power for slightly less exp. A good idea i'd say. The reason i say this is not only can you attack the beast in the front, your companion can hit in the back which does a good 3x damage. Assurance of safety with another warrior is far greater than alone, because of the basic rule that if you're grouped you have a chance of life after death ((beothaich deum - red potion)).

When determining on who should hit the creature in the back, I would suggest considering the following things:
  • Strength of you and your companion
  • Health of you and your companion
  • Value of items worn by you and your companion

I suggest letting the strongest hit from behind doing lethal damage and letting the healthiest take the hits. If you know one of you is wearing a really expensive item such as a dark belt or necklace, It would be very considerate of you of not letting that person take the hits. Not only does this save on gold, but it also makes you seem like a great person to hunt with ((your companion gets a lighter repair than normal)).

Finally, if one of you gets really hurt ((near red or past that point)), the other should immediately rescue the creature to get it off your companion. After the beast is dead, rest for a bit. If you start taking severe damage as well and both of you are hurt, fleeing is never dishonorable when it involves saving both your lives.

    Hunting with a Rogue
If hunting at a low level area, let the rogue sleep trap the creatures while you two slay it. Rogues have many tricks of the trade, and by all means let them use every one they know. Just keep the rogue alive and keep the beasts off the rogue.

Hunting in a high level area such as the Cthonic Remains or Undine Fields, rogues are near about nessisary. Listen to them call out the element of the creature and use the opposite element against it ((more info about elements at the bottom)). Also, let the rogue use their greater blind traps to blind all the enemies around. Being that rogues can hide very well, let them lead you into untold dangers so they can blind the beasts before they know you're there.

    Hunting with a Wizard
Wizards are the arcane and mystical, which you are nowhere near being a warrior. Their magicks can either save you or cause you to perish at a moment's whim. They command powerful elements of lightning, water, fire, and the earth itself to annialate their enemies.

Wizards also use a spell called fas nadur, which weakens monsters' defenses and can even affect you as well. If you have a rare belt called the Dark Belt, their fas nadur can enchant your body with the darkness to shroud the beasts attacks, causing a lot less damage. However, the darkness will do the reverse if your belt is of any other type. If you have nadur on you without a dark belt, try not to get hurt.

    Hunting with a Priest
A priest is a warrior's best friend. Not only do they keep you healed, but they can enhance your power as well and curse your enemies. If offered to hunt with a priest, you will find not much of a reason to refuse.

A good thing to keep in mind is that priests are overall fragile so your number one objective is to keep the beasts off the priests. If you have the skill "rescue", use it on anything that seems hostile toward your holy companion. Even if a monster is allready attacking you and you're in the middle of fighting back, get the other monsters off the priest.

If you're worried about the durability of your items with all the monsters on you, try one of my favorite tactics: Walling yourself in. You need the cooperation of your priest in order for this to work. You lure all the creatures after you and stand next to a wall or a tree right next to the edge. Have your priest stand on your left side. Now the monsters in front of you can only reach you by standing right in front of you ((with a tree on the left and priest on the right)). This leaves you being able to handle them one on one, but keep in mind the beasts can still cast spells. However with a priest, that's not much of an obstacle ^^

    Hunting with a Monk
Hunting alongside of a monk is near about the same as a figher only they have various different defenses/offenses. Some hide from danger, while others laugh at it. Monks at lower insights are generally weaker than the warrior, but their other skills such as the method of removing fatal poisons and blindness could prove them to be a great asset to your hunts.

Do not underestimate the power of the monk, because near the high insights they can become fierce hunters even more powerful than you.

    Helpful hints and tips
  • When low on life, take a few steps back from the beast and use a hydele deum or other health object.
  • If your party is running from a horde of beasts, use beag suain on them while running. One less chasing could save a life.
  • Knowing the element of your opponent can provide a great benefactor. Dark belts defend well against all elements and dark necklaces do good damage against them all. However, using the direct opposite element of the creature is even better for attacks and using the same element belt provides greater defense.

  • Use obstacles such as trees, walls, rocks, and anything else to your defensive advantage.
  • Be courtious and friendly to other aislings. Their respect is worth more than any amount of experience you could gain.
  • If an option, allways attack from the back or the sides of the creature. The back does 3x normal damage, which the sides do 2x the damage.
